Product Overview

A tractor that has battery power but loses ignition when the key is moved, cuts out over bumps, or has a loose or damaged key barrel may have a worn switch. A no-crank complaint on an early 8N or 9N does not automatically point here because the original starter push button is a separate part.

This two-position key switch opens and closes the tractor ignition circuit. It is useful when the switch itself has failed electrically or mechanically; it does not replace the starter button, starter relay, coil, resistor, wiring, or charging-system components.

Match 8N3679C or a listed cross-reference, the two-terminal rear layout, mounting threads, key positions, tractor wiring, and serial information. Modified 6-volt and 12-volt tractors may no longer use the original-style circuit.

Compatibility Notice

Northline Parts does its best to list all known compatible models, but the correct part may fit an application that is not shown above. Model year, production date, serial number, engine or equipment specification, installed options, and previous repairs can change fitment. Match the original part, reference number, dimensions, connectors, mounting points, and product photos before purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will this replace the starter button on an 8N? A: No. On original early Ford systems, the key switch enables ignition while a separate safety starter button operates the starter.

Q: Can a bad switch make the engine die over bumps? A: Yes, but loose wiring, a failing resistor, coil connections, or poor grounds can produce the same symptom.

Q: Does tractor model alone confirm fit? A: No. Compare the old switch, terminal layout, wiring changes, and reference number.

Q: Is this an original-equipment part? A: No. This is a new aftermarket product. Brand names and part numbers are used only to identify compatible applications.
