This mechanical lift pump transfers diesel fuel from the tank to the injection system. A weak pump can cause hard starting, repeated loss of prime or poor fuel supply under load.
Before replacing it, check the fuel filter, tank pickup and hoses for restrictions or air leaks. Those problems can make a good pump look weak and cause similar hard-start symptoms.
