Product Overview

The starter solenoid carries battery current to the starter motor when the key/start circuit is activated. A worn solenoid can click without cranking, work only intermittently, or develop enough internal resistance to cause slow or inconsistent starter engagement even with a charged battery.

Before replacing the solenoid, confirm battery voltage, cable condition, grounds, safety-interlock operation and starter-motor condition. These older John Deere utility vehicles can have wiring changes by model and serial number.

Key Features & Performance

  • 12V high-current starter switching
  • Application coverage for John Deere AMT and 1800 utility vehicles
  • Useful replacement for intermittent or high-resistance starter engagement
  • Simple service item when the starter circuit has been correctly diagnosed

Part Numbers & Specifications

  • Voltage: 12V
  • Component: starter motor solenoid / high-current relay

Before You Order

Match the stud layout, coil terminals and mounting bracket to the original solenoid. A click/no-crank condition can also be caused by corroded battery cables, a weak battery or a failing starter motor.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the solenoid and starter motor?
The solenoid acts as the high-current switch; the starter motor turns the engine.

Can a solenoid click and still be bad?
Yes. Burned internal contacts can click normally but fail to pass enough current.

Should I replace it without testing the battery?
No. Battery and cable voltage-drop testing should be done first.
